Watercolors
Suggested Brands: Winsor Newton Artists' Quality, Holbein, Daniel
Smith
(Please don't waste your money on Van Gogh paints or student grade
watercolors)
Pigment
Colors:
Colbalt Blue, Quinacridone Gold, Phthalo Blue or (Winsor Blue, Red
Shade)
Aureolin Yellow, Sap Green, Alizarin Crimson, Rose Madder from Holbein
or
Quinacridone Rose (from Daniel Smith),Permanent Magenta (or, quinacridone
magenta)
Others to try but not necessary for workshop:
Burnt
Sienna, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue,
Hansa Yellow (from Daniel Smith), Hookers Green, Viridian Green,
, Vermillion, Cadmium Red, (deep)New Gamboge, Cadmium Yellow Light,
Opaque white
NOTE: I WILL HAVE TUBES OF PAINT THAT YOU
CAN TRY. PLEASE DON'T INVEST A TON OF MONEY IN NEW PAINTS JUST FOR
THIS CLASS.
Brushes
Rounds:
Inexpensive, but good: Cheap Joe's Golden Fleece, 10, 12, 14
#16 Winsor Newton, Sceptre Gold II, #101
(Winsor Newton, Sceptre Gold brushes are a good substitute for sable
rounds. They are a mixture of sable and nylon.)
Flats:
1 inch "Dreamcatcher" from Cheap Joes (recommended) OR
another brand that has a blend of nylon and sable.
¾" or 5/8" synthetic nylon
1-1/2 in. or 2 inch squirrel wash brush from Cheap Joes (very soft)
Palettes:
Cheap Joes' Original
Watercolor Palette (inexpensive, but functional)
Choose something with one or two large areas for mixing
Paper:
Cold Press ( I use 300 lb, but 140 will work)

SUPPLY OF FABRIANO AND LANAQUARELLE 300# & KILIMANJARO (Cheap
Joes Brand) WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO PURCHASE
Amount:
Minimum of 1 full-sized sheet (a good idea to cut the large sheets
into 1/4 sheet-size)
Other
Supplies:
small
spray bottle, water containers, pencil, eraser, small sponge, one
or two boards on which to stretch paper (gator board or ¼
in. plywood a little larger than your paper), Kleenex, paper towels,
sketch book. An extra stapler, hair dryer will come in handy
