STORY OF THE PAINTING

This woman was selling at Market Day in a small village across the lake from Dali,Yunan Province, China. Many of the older women in the village wore bright blue cotton fabric wrapped around their heads, jade jewelry, embroidered vests and bright blue clothing. There were a number of women selling pieces of deep, blue cotton cloth that had been stitched then dyed with indigo color. White patterns appearing on the cloth were left after the threads were taken out.
